Bayou Blue Senior Center has special guests for meeting

Senior center news: The members of the Bayou Blue Senior Center met Aug. 19 with group president Ruth Deroche opening the meeting to a membership of 45 people in attendance. This meeting was also the center’s monthly birthday luncheon celebration. Ruth Deroche welcomed guests Allie and Alvin Cuneo and the Rev. Richard Jones and his wife Alice, to the festivities. Jones led the club collect and blessed the food. Jones will be retiring, and he and his wife will be returning to their hometown of Bay St. Louis after retirement. Everyone will miss them, but wish them good luck.

Birthday celebrants were E. J. Bergeron, Jack Flippo, Ruth LeBlanc, Marie Prejean, Norris Levron and Shirley Fournier. Everyone present enjoyed a delicious meal. The featured item of the meal was ham, which was prepared by members Frances Lester, Ruth Daigle and Janice Carlos and the membership each brought a covered dish.

The Health Fair will be held Sept. 4 at the Lockport Fire station from noon to 3 p.m.

Members from the center will be out this week and upcoming dates at various businesses in the area selling the center’s Christmas raffle tickets.

Tickets are available for $5 for a book of five, or can be purchased individually by calling the center at 876-1346 on either Monday or Tuesday, or by calling Ruth Deroche at 872-3440.

The half and half prize was won by Norma Martin, who in turn made a donation. In-home raffle winners Frances Scott, Roy and Catherine Babin, Jay Bergeron, and Dot Bergeron.

Door prize winners were Lillian Breaux, Ruth Daigle, Clemillia Marcel, Catherine Witherwax, Lois Use’, Oscar Usie, Mary Bijeaux and Catherine Babin. The group closed the meeting with the Lord’s prayer, and center manager Frances Lester called bingo.

St. Louis Church and K.C. council 7657 news: Religious education classes will begin Sept. 15 and Sept. 16. If anyone still has not registered their child, it’s not too late. To do so, call Nancy at the religious education office at 876-6686.

All anniversary couples celebrating 25, 40, 50, 60 and more years of marriage from January to December 2015 will be honored at 2 p.m. Oct. 26 at St. Frances de Sales Cathedral followed by a reception in the courtyard and cafeteria. Anyone wishing to participate in this program is asked to call the parish office at 876-3449 before Sept. 12 to register.

The KCs will be holding a teen dance at the KC home from 7 to 10 p.m. Sept. 6 instead of Sept. 20. There will be a karaoke and a break dance contest, and a DJ will also be on hand. Admission will be $3 per child from the ages of 10 to 16 years old. There will also be soft drinks and snacks for sale, and lots of adult supervision.

Our neighbors in Lockport will hold an adult dance at the KC Home in Lockport on Sunday, Sept. 14, from 5 to 9 p.m. The Cajun Five Band will be featured. Admission will be $5 per person, with BYOL., and setups will be available. For more information, call Jerry Bonvillain at 532-6605.

Congratulations to Rosetta Guidry and Jerry Gautreaux, who were married on July 26 during an 11 am ceremony which was held at 220 Lark Drive in Lockport. The couple lives in Lockport.

First Presbyterian Church news: The First Presbyterian Church of Bayou Blue announces that a retirement event will take place at 4 p.m. on Sunday, honoring the Rev. Richard Jones who will be retiring. There will be a program of singing and acknowledgment of Jones and his wife’s accomplishments. This event will be followed by a covered dish supper. Everyone is invited to attend.
