 Knowing Your Computer System Information

Sometimes it is very important to know the System Information about your PC. What is in the machine? What sort of Operating system (OS) is installed on the machine? How muchRAM is installed on the machine? How much disk space is still available on the hard disk drive? What is the size of your HDD (Hard Disk Drive)?

Why fore do I ask those questions? This is a very simple answer... You would be the first person probably who never will have problems with your PC, and those questions are the questions which a technician will ask you first. So be prepared up from the beginning, this could save you money (telephone communications) and also a lot of nerves.

 System Information Easily Explored

I discovered years ago a very interesting web site who is providing very good FREE services which I want to share with you, dear readers. Here is the address: MY-CONFIG. This web site is multilingual and provides his FREE services in French and in English. Have a look on the screenshot below, please.

As you see, there are different "buttons" present:

  • Start the detection
  • Find the drivers
  • Share my configuration
  • Generating a signature
  • Save as PDF
  • Run the detection (the big green button)
This shows us already how much power is on that web site and this ALL for FREE. A great service which will get discussed more in depth below...

Detecting The Configuration

Let us start to detect the configuration(system information) by clicking the green button "Run the detection" as shown on left-hand side screenshot.

A new web page is opening and a message is displayed telling you how to continue, follow these steps, please. In my case, as shown above, I had already installed the plugin from that web site and the plugin is not anymore up-to-date, so I will need to install it manually.

The manual install of this plugin consists on downloading it first onto your computer. You chose yourself the file where to download it. You will than see an icon like shown on left-hand side screenshot. Double-click that icon and follow the steps to install the plugin.

Go back now to the web site and click on "Refresh the Page". Your PC will no get scanned and after a certain time (depending on how much programs are installed on your PC) a report will get generated online like shown below.

So, now you got all the necessary information and it would be good the keep it for further need. The best way to do now is to save it as a PDF-File by clicking the button "Save as PDF".

After clicking "Save as PDF", a green button "Generate" appears, click it.

A window opens, asking to save the PDF document in the same file as the plugin is installed. Click the button to save it and you will have now all information about your PC on your PC.

Ready to use ;-)

 Generating a Signature

Now why not also creating a signature of our configuration? This FREE serviceproposes us that, let us try it out. First click the button "Generate a signature", a green button "Create" will get displayed. Click this button.

The following window left-hand side appears. It tells us that we will need to create an account and to be logged-in to use this service. OK, let us do this.

To create an account you will need to register first by clicking the icon with a "green +" at the upper right corner on the web site, do so please.

The "TOS" (Terms Of Service" will get shown which you need to read and to accept. Click the button "Inscription" to continue.

Now there will be an online inscription-formular shown which you will need to fill out. When finished you will need to click again on a button called "Inscription", do so please. Your inscription finished you need to login with your login-name and your password and now you are ready to go for getting your "Configuration signature" by clicking again the button "Generating a signature". Do so and your PC-Configuration will get stored on the server of "Ma-Config" and is every time available when you need it. Once stored on the server you will now also be able to share your information with other people on a forum and/or friends.

 Sharing the Configuration

Still being logged-in, click now the button "Share my configuration".

A green button "Share" appears, click it.

A new window appears like shown left-hand side showing you the possibilities which you want to share. To do so, take as reference the items which I have already transfered to the right "Text field".

Thus meaning, first click on "Select the configuration(s) to share:" and select your login name.
Then you select on the left "Text field" the items which you want to share, this one each, followed by clicking the arrow showing to the right. This item will now getting transfered to the right "Text field". Continue till you got the items all transfered, like shown in the screenshot above and then click the button "Share".

A new window appears showing you on the top of the page two different links which you could use in forums to share your configuration in case of need for trouble-shooting help...

The helping people on the forums would know exactly your configuration which is a need for making an analysis.
