Impact factor for posts is a measurement of importance.
Impact factor for users reflect their authority, reputation and contribution on a particular topic.
Rating reflects the quality of posts.
Rating on Voofie is not a simple average of all ratings, but a weighted average of rating, weighted by the impact factor of users who rated.
Voofie is an all-in-one talent and knowledge platform that values expertise and organization. We facilitate exchange of talent and knowledge by helping experts to build their reputation, talents to find their audience and users to locate trustworthy information easily.
The following articles give an overview of the features in Voofie:Basically everything! Post your research findings, homework, shopping experiences, cooking recipes, etc... Basically everything that others find useful can be posted, just make sure they are correctly tagged so that others can find it.
Impact factor measures the importance of the posts. Importance does not necessarily mean quality. Rather, it reflects the amount of attentions gain from users. Posts that are frequently viewed, rated and commented will have a higher impact. Posts that attract experts will also have a higher impact than those attracting laymen.
Rating measures the quality of posts. It is determined by the weighted average of the rating submitted by users, weighted by the impact score of the users. That means users with higher impact score on the topic of the posts will have a higher authority and power in determining the quality of the posts.
Impact factor reflects the authority of the users on particular concepts. Impact factor can be gained by posting high quality works that attract the attention of other users. There is an impact score for each concept, which in turn determined by posts tagged with that concept. For example, you posted an article with tag A, B, C. If the post gains rating or impact factor, your impact score on concept A, B, C will increase.
Experts will be given higher weighting in rating, voting, etc. However, different users are experts in different domains. Therefore, Voofie will consider how related between your skill sets and the tags of the post in order to determine your impact you have on that post.
For example, assuming there are two experts, A and B, having the same impact score in Programming and Biology respectively. The Programming expert will have a higher impact on a C++ post than the Biology expert because Programming is more related to C++ than Biology.
For each concept tag, there is a corresponding Wikipedia article. By analyzing links, text, and other page elements, we calculate the relatedness between concepts.
There are two types of tag, concept tags and attribute tags. Concept tags describe the main topics of your post, while attribute tags describe the characteristics of your post.
Choose specific, descriptive, concise tags that best describe your post. For example, it is better to use the tag “Quantum Mechanics” than “Science” because the former one is more descriptive. Also, using “Music of Hong Kong” is more concise and specific than tagging “Music” and “Hong Kong” separately.
By assigning the right tags to your post, you can ensure that your post reaches your target audience. Also, having a high impact score on a specific area means that you are as authoritative as a specialist.
In different scenario, we may have to search for different types of resources with different characteristics, hence a simple keyword or topic concept search may not be enough to describe a post. By having different types of tag, people can better describe their posts as well as retrieving the posts they really want to read.
We assign the posts into categories according to their tags. For example, as "Physics" belong to Science category, all posts tagged with “Physics” will be categorized under Science.
We use computer algorithm to assign tags into categories based on their relatedness. The method used is not perfect, so it may not make sense in some cases. However the assignment will be improved in time.
The site is simply moderated by everyone. There is no moderator to decide which post is offensive or spam, it is up to everyone to decide. If you encounter a questionable post, just give it a negative score, then the post will be ranked lower or even be removed.
